Makahiki 2021 - Week 5
After Makahiki had begun, everyone gathered at midnight and made their way to the beach or freshwater pond. Hawaiian men, women and children bathed in the clean water in a purification ceremony called hiʻuwai.
Hawaiians cleansed themselves of the past year and prepared for the coming one. This ceremony is still practiced amongst many hula hālau and cultural practitioners. All water in Hawaiʻi can be cleansing and purifying for not only your body, but your mind and soul.
This week we are proud to highlight the Kaho'olawe Restoration Project. You can learn more about and support their efforts at: http://www.protectkahoolaweohana.org
